There are many art movements over the centuries like the family of berries (around the world) such as Surrealism, Dada, Conceptual, Expressionism etc. but I've grown to drawn towards minimal artwork, (maybe Avant-garde way) why? It's like the Bermuda Triangle, we'll never know.
Minimalist movement might consider visual phenomena after the 2nd World-War (popularized in the 1960's and 70's) but it existed long before that, Mondrian's flowers, Kazimir's paintings. Sculptures of Robert Morris even in music we find minimalism John Cage composition 4'33'', masterpieces of EAL Satie. Most famous minimalist artists are Frank Stella, Yayoi Kusama, Donald Judd, Carl Andre and Kazuko Miyamoto etc.
My influence varies, I like Kenya Hara design aesthetics, Jackson Pollock (lil dry and complicated but Mmkay!), Piet Mondrian wonderful lines, Salvador Dali the uncle of surrealism (André Breton is the daddy), self-taught Matthieu Venot (nicest person , France), I think Picasso influenced every artists whether knowing or unknowingly, legendary (Canadian) graphic designer Burton Kramer, cannot deny some fashion brands (me, a fashion brands-history enthusiast) especially empire of Don Ortega (Spain) and paradigm shifting designers Josef Müller-Brockmann, Max Bill, Saul Bass and the most influential cinematographers late Gordon Willis, Gregg Toland, Freddie Young, Conrad Hall to name a few. Other area (subconscious influence) would be as people say kind & simple business man ever Mr. Ingvar Kamprad from Sweden (certainly forgetting some other names to mention here but) must admit that the biggest influence on me perhaps from the school of Bauhaus (Weimar), Swiss Style and of course the Japanese arts ie Sumi-E.
I find that the cliché “less is more” to be the best laid idea in my photography or cinematographic artwork, playing golf with negative space by being simple, an ideal idea which BtW, Machiavellian-marketing stratigistic Apple Inc uses from it's pregnancy, at least Apple notwithstanding is not shady as KFC (keeps fattening children).
However, perhaps due to my introvertedness and depressed ass life I do love dark photography (chiaroscuro, maybe in Italian for dark & shadow like the paintings of great MM Caravaggio who influenced cinematographer Vittorio Storaro & legendary Marty Scorsese).
Little introduction: I'm a cisgender (adult) single Brown male (pronouns he/him/his) don't really believe (confused) about marriage cause once I heard a kid asking: “Dad, how much does it cost to get married?” The father said: “Son, I don't know, I'm still paying!” (it's a joke) and gonna share with y'all my deepest thought-in-short, I find it hard to utilise my creativity (an evil hand beckoning from behind) rather paralyzed-mind by current-culture and surroundings/place, needless to say lots of people suffering from creative block. Long ago, I remember an artist named Nick deals with mental issue (sleep paralysis) by recreating through detailed photographs.
UNPOLITICALLY, LOOKING FOR 'WHAT EVER' LAJOS, NEHRU, Dr. KING, Jr; MOHANDAS, X, NELSON, ANNIE, LARRY, CÉSAR, MUJIB, ALETTA & MEL GIBSON FOUGHT FOR BUT SIMPLY UNABLE TO.
Wondering in vain, what is needed not getting it. Right now, my life is sandwiched in-between pizza delivery guy and the gynecologist (both, can smell it but cannot eat it).
Oh dear I don't know how to elaborate nicely (not graphophobia, though) not sure what I’m going to do in a stage. FYI fear of public speaking affected upon 75% people approx (it’s most common phobia) and cause it is indeed foolish thought, well firstly I’m no one to discuss about freewill and destination (we’re here for photography thing) but, it occurred to me when realising (while sitting ‘where the most wonderful/creative thoughts’ have been bestowed upon us [bathroom]) a TV show called LOST (2004–2010), where passengers in that airplane (before the crash into the creepy island) had a different lifestyle/views, after landing in a new place they received (not superpowers) new ways to survive, yeah! yeah it’s obvious that “necessity is Mommy of all creations” we know that so, they invented/struggled to survive, naturally unlocked the doors of creativity I remember John Locke (character) was paraplegic, later on Australian sadistic island he could walk again, it’s nostalgic, cannot rewatch to verify it (miraculously, not much explained) there goes: Place vs. Destination, so was it “the place” cured him. Didn’t you ask once: Why are some people seem to be more creative or successful and others (rest) are not, Ooh crap! that’s an economical question, sometimes I do ask/wonder myself if I was (living) in some other place than the goddamn place I am right now, perhaps I could do something better, I believe (hope y’all don’t find me crude) if we ‘must’ care about BLM, wars and #metoo movement then that historic biological argument by Plato & Aristotle “Nature vs. Nurture" matters, too “Think!! it ain’t illegal, yet. But they workin’ on it” E. R. Griffin. Then I realised (similarly the boy in The Sixth Sense by twist-guru Shyamalan) it was another cinema-genius J. J. Abrams & team, who put Eastern & Western philosophies of empiricism, faith and science into that drama series, also I’m victim of negative-thinking LOL.
I remember the make-sense advice from Don Luis Buñuel (disturbing guy) said, paraphrase: “On art, technical methods cannot be touched, all have unique styles but never, ever change your artistic moral (aka inner-style) against your own conscience for the sake of others’ ideology." Certainly, it is impractical to convince a monkey that honey is sweeter than banana, meaning why should you even listen to me, all I can say: Ask questions. Never let any forces/sources (newage media or alt-docs) to control your mind, find the facts by using blessing of volition.
“I Doubt. Therefore, I Might Be”
But again, we all suffer from procrastination (more or less) one of the mantras to do anything in this (YOLO) life is like the Nike slogan. Remember folks: Life is like a box of chocolate not Hefner's Wonderland. Thus, I've reinvented with simple theoretical probability the quote by the genius of all time TA Edison “60% inspiration + 40% perspiration = Creativity.”
Fact- There are many people (depressed) just like me, think, wink, rock, walk, dance, talk like me but not quite me. Be like AOC, she is the only “waitress" who would bring anything on the table. Just kidding.
On serious note: We ought to find a solution and stop complaining (myself bit guilty of it), it reminds me of a problem solving strategy: a lady goes into a tattoo parlour and asked the tattooer that she wants a tattoo of Santa Clause on her inner right thigh (resembling Xmas) and a Thanksgiving turkey on her inner left thigh. The artist bit curious and says, “Ook, Ma'am. That's kind of a strange request... Might I ask why." “Well,” she says, “My husband is always nagging that there's nothing to eat between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I thought I'd fix that!”
We all heard since birth, do what your heart says that bullshit too, nowadays on social media everyone is an expert, I find it odd. My heart wants to jump off from 20 story building and land safely on the concrete (it's suicidal unconscious tendency, as C. Jung would explain) Mmkay!!. We must reason, (I doubt scientists, too) find facts and then act upon, if dealing with creative block, hunt for a solution. Remember (whoever is reading, you are a beautiful being). Anyhoo, won't waste your time and tbc never meant to offend anyone.
